Anthropic builds its own data centers with Macquarie and GIC

What this changes for businesses that rely on generative AI

For a company that uses Claude or another generative AI model through a cloud API, this vertical integration changes nothing about access terms in the short term, but it signals a trend worth tracking closely. If Anthropic manages to reduce its dependence on third-party hosting markups, that could eventually translate into a more stable pricing grid and more predictable service-level agreements (SLAs) for IT departments and FinOps teams. The flip side deserves attention too: Theseus's first sites target the United States, meaning the computing capacity behind Claude's international usage will, at least in the short term, keep being hosted on American soil — a point IT decision-makers should factor into contract clauses on availability and data location as debates over digital sovereignty intensify worldwide. For any company building its AI strategy around a single vendor, the Theseus episode is also a reminder that the total cost of ownership of generative AI depends as much on the strength of the underlying infrastructure as on the sticker price of a subscription, and that negotiating service-continuity clauses with an AI vendor is becoming just as important as negotiating the price per token.
